Air-interface of high data rate wireless access

چکیده
High data rate, reliable wireless access has been the focus in the design of the future wireless broadband communications. The wireless access is increasingly becoming data centric, and has to meet the requirements of a wide array of traffic ranging from voice, multimedia, and other real-time applications. The technology that work behind the scenes to make all this happen is constantly improving; improvements in the physical layer including new coding and modulation schemes that use spatial multiplexing (transmitting and receiving signals through multiple antennas), and improvements in medium access strategy (currently physical agnostic) is analyzed. The role of MIMO MAC and inter-layer interactions in wireless open system interface are identified, to lay the framework for a cross-layer design, of a physical aware medium access layer.

IEEE Standard 802.16: A Technical Overview of the WirelessMAN Air Interface for Broadband Wireless Access
The broadband wireless access industry, which provides high-rate network connections to stationary sites, has matured to the point at which it now has a standard for second-generation wireless metropolitan area networks. IEEE Standard 802.16, with its WirelessMANTM air interface, sets the stage for widespread and effective deployments worldwide. This article overviews the technical medium acces...
متن کاملCoexistence Mechanism for Colocated HDR/LDR WPANs Air Interfaces
This paper addresses the issues of interference management among Low Data Rate (LDR) and High Data Rate (HDR) WPAN air interfaces that are located in close-proximity (up to 10 cm) and eventually on the same multimode device. After showing the noticeable performance degradation in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) and goodput due to the out-of-band interference of an HDR air interface over an LDR ai...
متن کاملWireless ATM Network Medium Access Control with Adaptive Parallel Multiple Substream CDMA Air-interface
One of the most important components of any wireless network is the medium access control protocol. This research deals with wireless ATM (WATM) medium access control (MAC) protocol. Conventional studies concerning WATM have focused mainly on variations of the time-division-multiple-access (TDMA) method for the wireless aspect of WATM networks. However, there are many advantages that the direct...
متن کاملEvolution Toward Third Generation Wireless Networks
The explosive growth of the Internet is expected to produce a tremendous increase in the demand for wireless multimedia services. First and second generation wireless networks have proven capable of providing voice and low-rate data services; however, their current air interfaces are inadequate for satisfying the higher data rates that have been specified by the ITU for IMT-2000. In order to sa...

The WCDMA air interface was initially designed to support a wide variety of services with different QoS requirements having a maximum bit rate of 2 Mb/s. In order to satisfy the future service and application needs several technical enhancements are being studied and standardized for WCDMA in 3GPP. Even with evolved WCDMA, there is a need for another public wireless access solution to cover the...
